Science & Art
The works, most of which are shown as reproductions, have diverse connections to the predecessor institutions that fulfilled the University Responsibilities of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
While the works of a student at the Polytechnic School can be attributed to his courses, and the painting by a geologist at the Technical University depicts a subject of his scientific research, the connections in the remaining works are more distant.
Because the relationships between what is depicted and the work of the artists span different dimensions than the core tasks of research and teaching, essential contexts emerge for the people working at the institution: the cultural interests of a pioneer in mechanical engineering, an artist’s inspiration drawn from the graphic visualization of measurement results, personal memories of collaborative work in a historic building on the campus—and a moral assessment of Fritz Haber’s wartime service that could not be more clear.
The exhibition can be viewed by appointment with the KIT Archives.
